Many Solitaire games can be played in smaller areas than a game table. Others require a larger play area, and these games are often played on the floor or on a quilt. Alternatively, to play with large designs on a game table, miniature cards are available. These are usually half the size of standard cards.
Virtually all Solitaire games are played with one or more standard packages of 52 cards. Standard Solitaire uses a pack of 52 cards.
The first objective is to release and play certain cards in position to build each base, in sequence and in the suit, from the ace to the king. The ultimate goal is to build the whole package on the foundations, and if that can be done, the Solitaire game is won.
The range of the cards in the Solitaire games is K (high), Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, A (low).
There are four different types of batteries in Solitaire:
The Tableau: Seven piles that make up the main table.
The basics: four heaps in which you must build a whole suit or sequence. In most Solitaire games, the four aces are the bottom card or the foundation base. The piles of the foundation are hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs.
The stock (or "Hand"): if the complete package is not arranged in a square at the beginning of a game, the remaining cards from the pile of cards from which additional cards are put in play according to the rules.
The Talon (or "Waste"): cards from the stockpile that does not take place in the box or foundation are placed face up in the waste pile.
To form the box, seven stacks must be created. Starting from left to right, place the first card face up to make the first stack, deal one card face down for the next six stacks. Starting from left to right, place one card face up in the second stack and deal one card face down in stacks three through seven. Starting from left to right, place one card face up on the third pile and deal one card face down in heaps four through seven. Continue this pattern until pile seven has a card face up on a stack of six cards face down.
The remaining cards from the stockpile (or "hand") and are placed on top of the box.
When starting, the bases and the waste pile do not have any cards.
The initial array can be changed by "construction": transfer of cards between the face-up cards in the table. Some cards in the draw can be played at the same time, while others cannot be played until certain blocking cards are eliminated. For example, of the seven cards facing up in the table, if one is a nine and another is ten, you can transfer the nine to the top of the ten to start building that stack in sequence. Since you have moved the nine of one of the seven piles, now you have unlocked a card face down; This card can be delivered and is now in play.
When you transfer cards in the square and begin to build sequences, if you discover an ace, the ace must be placed in one of the foundation piles. The bases are built by suit and in sequence from ace to king.
Continue transferring cards one on top of the other in the box in sequence. If you can not move more cards face up, you can use the inventory stack by flipping the first card. This card can be played on the bases or tableau. If you cannot play the card in the frame or foundation piles, move the card to the pile of debris and place another card in the pile.
If a vacancy is created in the table by removing cards elsewhere, it is called "space", and it is of great importance to manipulate the table. If space is created, it can only be completed with a king. Fill a space with a king could unlock one of the cards face down in another stack in the box.
Continue transferring cards in the draw and place the cards in play from the stock pile until all the cards are built in suit sequence in foundation piles to win.
